The Core Instructor Program is designed for individuals wishing to seek an opportunity to educate the public on CPR, AED and First Aid Skills according to the American Heart Association.
The course begins with 6 hours of classroom instruction on core teaching guidelines and understanding AHA programs. After completion of classroom time, instructor candidates must complete a monitoring class in which an experienced instructor will review your teaching techniques and skills and determine if you are a qualified candidate to become an instructor.
The course content is based on an adult learning model where participants view a scenario, compare teaching principles, and determine which skills need to be enhanced to make training effective.
Through the modules, the course teaches these five general competencies identified by the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and Instruction:
• Professional Foundations
• Planning and Preparation
• Instructional Methods and Strategies
• Assessment and Evaluation
• Management
The course also includes two modules from the American Heart Association:
• Remediation
• Cultural Sensitivity
The course begins with 8 hours of classroom instruction on core teaching guidelines and understanding AHA programs. After completion of classroom time, instructor candidates must complete a monitoring class in which an experienced instructor will review your teaching techniques and skills and determine if you are a qualified candidate to become an instructor. Taking the course does not guarantee that you will be accepted as an instructor and no refunds will be issued should you not be accepted as an instructor.Instructors agree to teach 2 community courses a year free for their training center and/or American Heart Association.
